CBC Morning Show Interview RE Toronto Maple Leafs' Game 6

Some of you might not know this, but before I started my food charity program in 2021, I'd been doing sports reporting part-time as a little side gig. Back in 2014, I did a Skype interview with Ryan Babel, who played European football (soccer) in the Premier League for many years and who even made an appearance in the FIFA World Cup in 2006. After that, I focused mostly on hockey, specifically young NHL prospects. I’ve attended at least five NHL Prospects Challenges in Buffalo, New York, where I interviewed some of the league’s top draft picks. And yes, I’ve watched the now Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman, Brandon Carlo, come up through the ranks each year with the Boston Bruins as an early second-round pick. I’ve gone to two NHL Scouting Combines, also in Buffalo, and I’ve gone to a few NHL rookie tournaments, a World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan, and a Frozen Four tournament in Chicago, Illinois. I’ve interviewed some pretty big names right after they got drafted into the NHL: Cale Makar, Brady Tkachuk, and Nico Hischier, just to name a few. And my very first hockey player interview was with Hayley Wickenheiser, and that story made the cover of the little magazine I was writing for at the time, HockeyNow. In 2020, I got the opportunity to go to the hills of Blue Mountain to interview snowboarders in the PGS World Tour right before the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup, including Jasey-Jay Anderson. By the time I stopped reporting on sports, I’d done well over 100 athlete interviews.
Talking Toronto Maple Leafs' Game 6 on the CBC Morning Show

On May 1st last week, the CBC Morning show sent me an unexpected email to see if I’d be interested in coming on the CBC Morning Show (radio) with Nav Nanwa to talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Game 6 against the Ottawa Senators the morning after. The producer found an old Toronto Maple Leafs article I wrote and since I’d already been on the show before, they thought I’d be a perfect fit!
I can’t tell you how much I needed this.
Talking hockey has always been an escape for me. Conversations about the Toronto Maple Leafs are always clean, even when they’re about Kyle Dubas irreparably damaging the franchise for the next decade. Anyways, I wanted to share this with those who’ve been following along with my “life journey”. To me, this interview was God’s way of telling me he’s got his hand on me, and to trust him. The last hockey article I had published was maybe in 2019.
I don’t believe in coincidences.
I believe in divine intervention.
I’m not going back to sports reporting, but talking hockey has always felt like home. And I needed that, especially last week.
I’m looking forward to watching the Toronto Maple Leafs play against the Florida Panthers tonight in Game 1 of the second round.
Thank God for Nylander and his ability to break-out just in the knick of time.
